Looking Down from the top of Mooney Falls, Havasupai Indian Reservation, Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA Looking Down From The Top Of Mooney Falls

While hiking for about forty five minutes through typical Canyon conditions, we became nearly faint from the heat. Luckily our guide was very generous in sharing all sorts of information during the trek. We learned about how a flood wiped out the previous site of their village, unique features of the environment and of his ancestors who had always lived here. Our spirits were lifted when we finally arrived at the top of the falls. We walked out to the edge and looked down after splashing our faces with the chilly waters from the stream. Once again we wondered in awe at the truest aqua colored water we had ever seen. (I'm afraid this photo, as it turned out after publishing it here, does not even begin to do the site justice.) As we viewed the steep rocky canyon walls surrounding the pool below, we looked at each other in deep contemplation of how we would get down to it. Somehow, we had imagined during the slightly steep hike we would finally emerge at the bottom, not the top, of the falls. It obviously was possible, there was a hand full of people already there. When we asked him about the way, he never answered except for the twinkling gleam in his eyes as he beckoned us to follow. Still unaffected by the heat, he walked swiftly now and anxious to enjoy the water below, we found new strength to follow.
