Fibroid
Tumors & Endometriosis Self Help Book, By Susan M. Lark, MD, Published
by Celestial Arts. this book contains some very informative and useful
information, checklists and workbook areas for patient self care. It provides
information on both conventional and alternative treatments, such as herbs
and a very extensive section on a diet control program which I would highly
recommend to those who have a history of Fibroids in their family for the
sake of prevention. As always, check with your own physician before undertaking
any diet or treatment plan contained in this or other books. While it was
published before Uterine Artery Embolization was an option, it otherwise
covers other treatments very well.

A NOTE ABOUT ALTERNATIVES,
NATURAL THERAPEUTIC TREATMENTS AND RESOURCES:
*
I tried many alternative treatments after I was
diagnosed with fibroids and before I discovered Uterine Artery Embolization.
During the months I was trying them, I often had periods of feeling better
with reduced symptoms. When I had the second diagnostic ultrasound eight
months later, I discovered my fibroids had not grown substantially. This
may perhaps have been due to my following these treatments because in general
fibroids normally grow quite swiftly. Whether they would have eventually
cured me of course is purely speculation.
*
I feel that there is no hard evidence proving
these treatments cause any harm (except in the use of herbs or vitamins
which one may be allergic to) and believe they all offer some degree of
therapeutic relief even if they do not cure the problem completely. The
optimum time to use these methods ARE BEFORE fibroids are discovered
if you have relatives with similar problems, as the condition is proven
to be somewhat hereditary, or while they are still very small. Some book
reviews include claims by women that they have had complete turn arounds
by following combination methods. As always, your own belief system is
a primary factor. "Miracles" do happen and sometimes faith in a treatment
alone will cure.
