Our Name

Na Kama Hele brings together citizens who want a better pedestrian environment in communities across the state of Hawai`i.

`Ohana

Any person wishing to travel by foot, wheelchair, bicycle, in-line skates, skateboard, rapid transit, or other human powered means.

Our Mission

Na Kama Hele seeks a Hawai`i that is walkable and pedestrian oriented through the following objectives:
  1. The continual improvement of pedestrian safety, amentity and access.
  2. The promotion of walking as a legitimate transportation mode and an important health, economical and social activity.
  3. The inclusion of pedestrian safety, amenity and access provisions in all land use and transportation plans, capital improvement projects, maintenance budgets, and traffic laws.
  4. All people, despite their age or immediate or potential disability, have the right to expect towns and developments to be places of easy social contact, exchange, and convenience; whether shopping, working or socializing.
  5. Research and publications into all aspects of the aforementioned objectives, and
  6. To build a proactive constituency and private partnerships within the state.
