The "Aegis" system is hardwired into the ship's Bridge. It allows ships to increase the ability of their Weapons Batteries & Turrets to deal with Ordnance.
The design has some major limitations that prevent it from being put to wide use.
1. It drops the Weapons Batteries range by one-half do to the spreading out of the barrage.
2. It cannot be turned off, only removed at a repair facility.
3. If the Bridge is hit, the Aegis system is also destroyed, but the limits in #1 above remain.
4. Trials have found that if wired into ships bigger than Light Cruisers, every time a weapon is fired there is one chance in six of the system overloading. This is shown by blowing the Bridge off of the Ship (Critical Hit).
5. A ship's Ordnance or Lances gains nothing.
6. Expense. (+20 pts.)
Nevertheless, the two designs below have been approved for trial use.
Note: The first time the system saw combat the CL Arakaki Maru held off a Chaos Styx long enough for an Imperial Envoy to escape though the warp. The Arakaki Maru was not heard from again and is thought lost in the line of duty.

*SPECIAL: Advanced Aegis (EE-jus) Targeting Array allows Turrets & Weapons Batteries to fire on Ordnance at a +1 to hit. The Weapons Batteries and Turrets are treated as if they are on Lock-On, allowing for a 2nd shot if the first one misses. If the ship IS on the Special Order: Lock-On, then it is allowed a 3rd shot if the first two miss.
The ship is allowed to interrupt at any time to fire its' Weapon Batteries at Ordnance. A Leadership Roll is required, similar to BFI. Note: Pass OR fail the roll, the ship loses its' next Fire Phase for the Weapon Batteries.
If using the Massed Turret Rule, the ship adds +2 instead of +1.
If using the "A Fighter Escorting Bombers Suppress A Turret Rule", the first shot only of each affected Turret is lost.
The ship may fire at non-Ordnance targets normally, and the Weapon Batteries can still only fire at one target each per turn.
Note: If the ship's Bridge is hit, all of the Aegis benefits are lost.
