Flight #1 of the Omega/Pencam II

With the help of Steve Wells we mananged to launch the Omega with a Aiptek Pencam II as it's payload on January 6, 2002 using a D12-5 engine.  I was quite amazed that the rocket landed in the park with this engine (a flight a year ago with no payload on a D12-5 had the rocket drifting out of the park but it was recovered with no problem).  The image below is from that flight.  The intersection shown at the bottom of the photo is Meheula Parkway (running left to right) and Lehiwa Drive (up and down).

Click here to play the AVI (about 2.26 Mbytes) for this flight.

Some notes before you start.

  1. There is no mirror in the payload section so the camera is pointing straight ahead and not down.
  2. The first few seconds have the rocket on the pad, a second of darkness then views of houses around the park and then the rocket ejecting it's parachute.
  3. After the AVI loads you might have to press on the image to start the video playback.
