Note: SDA and SCL signals are not required to get the mpeg boards to work, it is only to keep the Plug&Play compatibility for the monitors if they support this feature. There is nothing special done on the audio, except for the volume control which is done in software and may alter a little the sound. The optimum sound is when the volume is set to maximum (without any sw attenuation) and this corresponds to a line level output. This information suggests that we should all have our volume level set to maximum in DVD Station.
The stereo dac on board and the analog components passed Dolby standard, we have a (@-3dB) bandwith from 20Hz to 22kHz. Frequency response, crosstalk..everything meets Dolby, but it may not perform as well as an expensive Hi-fi amplifier. When we listen to the digital PCM output (which is exactly the same audio decoded stream that goes to the Dac for analog output) by sending our SPDIF signal to an external AC3 decoder, its seems to have more clarity than our direct analog output.
So if people want high quality sound (even for 2 channels), I would recommend an external SPDIF decoder (that is 2 or 3 times the price of a H+, so it may justify a better sound) and this may be worth it[.]
If you are are trying to view certain DVD movies such as "The World Is Not Enough" and receive a "file not found" or MMSYSTEM 275 error, please do the following (as proposed by a user and tested by us): Run regedit and rename the entries - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Udfs and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\Udfs by changing "Udfs" to any name like "Abc" and reboot. When you change control set 001, it automatically changes control set 002. When you are done with the movie, rename "Abc" back to "Udfs".
Actually, it turns out there are already netshow drivers which work with the card -- Pick them up from the netstream 2 driver file. The files with the .ax extension are netshow filters. They seemed to work for me, but I did goofy stuff where I updated my driver with the netstream 2 files, then reupdated my driver with the H+
Certain movies' video playback stutters, providing jerky playback, while most other movies work fine. This is also a problem with most movie trailers, but not necessarily the main movie. Example problem movies are Scent of a Woman, Dave, and Starman. I have also noticed that all of these movies and trailers will not play in Dolby Digital 5.1 and default to Dolby Pro Logic. The solution is simple: In the options menu, select PCM playback instead of AC-3 and everything works perfectly. The movies still play in Dolby Pro Logic mode, but the picture quality is much improved, and the jerky playback no longer exists!
I can't prove it myself since I don't know own one. But there is a product on the market called the Video Carifier VC3. It should solve the problem of watching DVD's through a VCR, or on a TV/VCR combo. I wrote the reseller and they confirmed it does fix the problem with watching them on the a TV/VCR... it cost about US$30... check http://store.yahoo.com/direct/vidclarvc3.html
I have found a wireless remote control that works perfect with DVD Station.
It is the remote mouse from X-10. This remote is so flexible that it will control your whole system including your PC. It will even control X-10 modules to turn the lights on and off and dim. Any function that has a hotkey on DVD Station can be programed. You can even launch DVD Station as soon as you press the DVD button on the remote and the movie starts. It will even shut down the computer by pressing the power button. You would think you had a stand alone DVD player. It comes in two versions one is just the IR remote mouse and the other is called The Big Picture (I have The Big Picture) The Big Picture is an RF remote that can be used in any room and comes with a vga to tv converter and video sender using 2.4 ghz so it delivers a great picture and stereo sound to any TV in the house you want. You can even browse the web. You can find all the info you need at http://www.x10.com
There's an undocumented feature in the current version of the Remote Selector: it has remote support for the DVD Station software. This means that you can use 6 different remotes to control the H+.Erwin's page, Visual Domain, is at http://www.visualdomain.net/. You can get Remote Selector there.
