This page describes how to Windows 95, 98, and ME for DSL via Static IP
- Prerequisite: You will need to have a properly installed and working Network Interface Card (NIC).
Note:This setup is recomended for advanced Windows users.
Open the Network Control Panel
- Click on the "Start" button.
- Click on "Settings".
- Click on "Control Panel".
- Double click on the "Network" icon.
- TCP/IP is installed by default. If it is not, click "Add", select "Protocol" and click "Add" again.
- Then select "Microsoft" and "TCP/IP".
Configure TCP/IP
- Click on "TCP/IP Protocol" and then click "Properties"
Note: You will need to use IP address information that was specifically assigned to you for your DSL account.
- Select "Specify an IP address"; then fill out the "IP Address" and "Subnet Mask" fields with the information that LavaNet has provided you.

- Click on the "DNS Configuration" tab.
- Click "Enable DNS".
- Type the name of your computer in the "Host" field (if your computer doesnt have a name you can make one up)
- Type 'lava.net' in the "Domain" field
- Type in the first DNS server number (64.65.64.1) in the "DNS Server Search Order" field and click "Add". Repeat this step for each of the LavaNet DNS servers until your screen looks like the example above. (if you also have your own DNS server you can enter that here as well) The LavaNet DNS servers are:
- Click on the "Gateway" tab.
Note: You will need to enter the specific gateway assigned to your DSL account by LavaNet
- Type the gateway issued to you by LavaNet in the "New gateway" field and click "Add". The number should move into the "Installed gateways" field. If there are any other gateways listed, remove them.
- Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window. This will take you to the "Network Control Panel". Click "OK" again; be prepared to insert your Windows 98 CD-Rom if prompted.
- You will then be asked to restart your computer. Click "Yes", and your computer will restart.
- You are now done with setting up your LavaNet DSL. Once Windows 98 is running again, simply open any internet application (ie Netscape, Eudora, Internet Explorer, etc)
