DSL - DHCP - Windows 95/98/ME

This page describes how to Windows 95, 98, and ME for DSL via DHCP

Note: This is the recomended setup for most client workstations.

Prerequisite: You will need to have a properly installed and working Network Interface Card (NIC).

Open the Network Control Panel

  • Click on the "Start" button.
  • Click on "Settings".
  • Click on "Control Panel".
  • Double click on the "Network" icon.

  • TCP/IP is installed by default. If it is not, click "Add", select "Protocol" and click "Add" again.
  • Then select "Microsoft" and "TCP/IP".


Configure TCP/IP

  • Click on "TCP/IP Protocol" and then click "Properties"

  • Select "Obtain IP address automatically"
  • Click on the "DNS Configuration" tab

  • Select "Disable DNS"
  • Click on the "Gateway" tab.

  • Remove any gateways listed under "Installed gateways".
  • Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window. This will take you to the "Network Control Panel". Click "OK" again; be prepared to insert your Windows 98 CD-Rom if prompted.
  • You will then be asked to reboot your computer. Click "Yes", and your computer will restart.
  • You are now done with configuring DSL. once Windows 98 is running again, simply run any internet application (ie Netscape, Eudora, Internet Explorer, etc)
