Dial Up - Windows 95, 98

This page describes how to setup Windows 95 and 98 to connect to LavaNet.

  • Click on the "Start" button.
  • Choose "Settings", and then choose "Control Panel".
  • In the "Control Panel" window, double click on the "Network" icon.

  • If Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP are already installed, click here to skip down to Configuring Dial-up Networking. If they are not installed, have your Windows 95 cdrom available to install the components.

Installing TCP/IP

  • Click on the "Add" button.

  • Click on "Protocal" to highlight then click on the "Add" button.

  • Click on "Microsoft" under Manufacturers.
  • Click on "TCP/IP" under Network Protocols.
  • Click on "Ok" to add TCP/IP.
  • Click on "Ok" to exit out of the Network Control panel.
  • Your Windows 95 cdrom may be prompted to be inserted.
  • Restart your compter.

Open Dial-Up Networking

  • Double click on the "My Computer" icon.
  • Double click on the "Dialup Networking" icon.

Configure Dial-Up Networking

  • If the image above does not automatically appear, double click on the "Make new connection" icon.
  • Type Lavanet for the name of the computer you are dialing.
  • Verify that under "Select a device:", your correct modem is selected.
  • Click the"Next" button.

  • In the "Area Code" field, type: 808.
  • In the "Telephone number" field, type the number corresponding to your location and type of modem.
  • Verify that the "Country or region code:" is United States of America (1).
  • Click on the "Next button".

  • Click on the "Finish" button.

  • Click on the Lavanet icon
  • Click on File on the menu bar.
  • Click on Properites.

  • Verify that the "Use area code and Dialing Properties" checkbox is NOT selected.
  • Click on the "Server Types" button.

  • Uncheck all items under "Advanced options:".
  • Under "Allowed network protocols:"
    • Uncheck "NetBEUI"
    • Uncheck "IPX/SPX Compatible"
    • Check "TCP/IP"
  • Click the "TCP/IP Settings" button.

  • Verify that "Server assigned IP address" is selected.
  • Select "Specify name server address ".
  • For "Primary DNS server" enter: 64.65.64.1
  • For "Alternate DNS server" enter: 64.65.64.65
  • Verify that both "Use IP header compression" and "Use default gateway on remote network" are selected.
  • Click on the "OK" button.
  • Click the "OK" button again.

  • Double click on the "Lavanet" icon to connect.
  • For "User name:" type the first part of your Lavanet email address (the part before the @lava.net).
  • For "Password:" type your Lavanet password.
  • If you want the password saved, select the "Save password" box. If this box is not available, click here for instructions on enabling this option.
