Dial Up - Windows 2000

This page describes how to setup Windows 2000 to connect to LavaNet.

• Double Click on the "Start" button, click on "Settings", click on "Network and Dial-up Connections", choose "Make New Connection".

• Click the "Next" button.

• Select "Dial-up to the Internet", then click the "Next" button.

• Select "I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN)"
• Click the "Next" button.

• Select "I connect through a phone line and a modem".
• Click on the "Next" button.

• In the "Area Code" field, type: 808.
• In the "Telephone number" field, type the number corresponding to your location and type of modem.
• Verify that "Use area code and dialing rules" is NOT selected.

• Click the "Advanced" button.

• Verify that under "Connection type", "PPP (Point to Point Protocol)" is selected, and under "Logon procedure", "None" is selected.
• Click on the "Addresses" tab.

• For "IP Address", select "Internet service provider automatically provides one".
• For "DNS server address", select "Always use the following:".
• For "Primary DNS server" enter: 64.65.64.1
• For "Alternate DNS server" enter: 64.65.64.65
• Click on the "OK" button.

• For your "User name", enter the first part of your Lavanet email Address (the part before the @lava.net).
• Type your Lavanet Password for "Password:".
• Click the "Next" button.

• Type Lavanet for the "Connection name:".
• Click on the "Next" button.

• Select "Yes" and click on the "Next" button. (If your Lavanet mail is already configured, select "No", click on the "Next" button and then click on the "Finish" button. At this point, you are ready to connect to Lavanet.)

• For "Display name:" enter the name to appear when sending email (for example, you can have your first name or last name, or both).
• Click on the "Next" button.

• Enter your Lavanet email address, then click the "Next" button.

• For "My incoming mail server is a: " select POP3.
• For "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server:" enter: pop.lava.net.
• For "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:", enter: smtp.lava.net.

• For "Account name:" enter the first part of your Lavanet email address (the part before the @lava.net).
• For "Password:" enter your Lavanet password.
• To save your password (so it doesn't have to be inputted evertime checking mail), select the "Remember password" box.
• Do not select "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)".

• You have now successfully configured your computer to connect to Lavanet. Click on the "Finish" button and give it a try!
