This page describes how to setup MacTCP.

  • Confirm that there is a FreePPP icon (you might see a PPP icon) and that it is highlighted.
  • Click on the More button.

NOTE: MacTCP is otherwise known as "Classic Networking" in the Macintosh "Network Software Selector". The version number MUST be 2.0.6, which can be verified checking the number in the bottom-left-hand corner of the screen. Also take notice of which icons are displayed. Any reference to AOL? If so you may need to remove them from the "System Folder:Extensions Folder" and trash.

It is NOT necessary to remove the "TCpack for AOL", as this can co-exist with the PPP connection just fine.

  • In the Top Left corner click on server.
  • In the Bottom Left corner set the Gateway Address to 0.0.0.0
  • In the Top Right corner select Class C
  • In the Bottom Right corner under Domain Name type lava.net
  • In the Bottom Right corner type these IP Addresses

64.65.64.1 (This address should be dotted as the default)
64.65.64.65

NOTE: You will not be able to change the gateway address until you change the "Obtain Address:" to "Manually". After you do this, you will be able to edit the address, but when you set it back to "System", you will notice that "Class" get's set to "A", and you must reset it back to "C". Please confirm that the last row under both the Domain and IP Address columns is completely blank. If there are any characters entered it may not let you OK out of this screen and may complain that there is an invalid entry entered. Also, you may find it difficult to change the values in the "Domain / IP Address" section. Best to select the desired field first, and then erase it, and then enter the info in, just in case.
