Who needs server colocation?
This professional-grade solution is used often by web developers, database managers, and customers needing large amounts of dedicated disk space. A customer owned and operated server, router or other equipment is installed by the Customer in LavaNet's colocation space. This space is adjacent to LavaNet's Network Operations Center (NOC) located in Downtown Honolulu's Pacific Guardian Center.

Colocated server speeds are usually in the multi-megabit range. This is among the fastest, most direct Internet connections you
can buy for a server or router. LavaNet Consulting can supply a configured server, for rental or purchase. As well as ongoing maintenance.
Please inquire.

How is it metered and billed?
LavaNet monitors the incoming and outgoing bandwidth, but does not add them together. Use up to 40 GB incoming AND up to 40 GB outgoing without incurring additional fees. Should the traffic in either direction exceed 40 GB, the higher of the two values is used for billing.

What's Included?
LavaNet Colocation Service includes: shelf space for a desktop, tower or rackmount computer in a special colocation area adjacent to LavaNet's Network Operations Center.

Gritty technical details
The server connects to the colocation switch on a 10/100Mbps full-duplex switch port with a 100 Mbps full-duplex path to two of our core network routers. Colocated server customers occupy their own exclusive subnet on a private virtual LAN. It is not shared with other co-located server customers. Broadcast traffic cannot be seen by other customers. Colocated server gateways are "virtual" gateways provided over 2 independent routers. Should one go down, the other one takes over. There is currently a maximum throughput limitation to our core network of 100 Megabits per second. Normally, there is around 2 T3's (90Mbps) total available bandwidth to other sites on the Internet, while 45 Mbps is the maximum available throughput to any one site on the Internet. These numbers represent theoretical limitations and are not a guarantee of performance. The LavaNet border routers all connect to the core at 100baseT full duplex. Outbound packets (leaving a colocated server traveling outward to the Internet) will arrive at the core, and be routed according to their destination over one of our two backbone connections. (Genuity and Sprint) Inbound packets (arriving from the Internet destined for your colocated server) will be routed preferentially over one of our backbone connections based on the LavaNet assigned IP address of your server, but with all backbones available in case of a backbone or link failure.

Sizes, shapes of servers supported
Please contact LavaNet for rackmount specifics. The maximum non-rackmount specifications are:

20" tall, 18" deep, 10" wide.If your plans require multiple machines, each with their own switch port, LavaNet charges
the normal colocation rate for each additional machine served. If you plan to "daisy chain" multiple machines to share the ONE switch port, add $350.00 setup, $320.00/mo. Contact us for details.
