Why change to LavaNet Domain Registration?

Better pricing, through competition.

When you first registered your domain, there were very few choices in registrar, if any at all! Now there is a lot of choice, and this brings competitive pricing and service. For instance, NetworkSolution/Verisign charges $35/yr, where LavaNet charges $20.83, and delivers more responsive service.

Responsive, end-to-end service from an ISP you trust.

If you have ever needed to call or email one of the huge giant registrars for help, you may have had a difficult time getting the help you needed in clear, simple terms. You may have found the service less than responsive. If you've never had to contact a giant registrar, consider yourself blessed! It can mean hours on the phone, long delays and baffling replies, even stacks of paperwork to fill out. An independent registrar can do a lot of this work for you.

How much is LavaNet Domain Registration
  • $20.83 per year for domain registration only
  • $25 setup, $25/yr for domain hosting only
  • $45.83 per year for domain registration and hosting
(web hosting packages are also available, hosting included)
Whoops! I already renewed my domain name with the big guys! What can I do?

Relax! The years you prepaid to your current registrar will be added onto your LavaNet registration at NO ADDITIONAL COST. Say you renewed for three years. Transfer to LavaNet, pay for one year, and get four years worth of registration. Cool!

Will my domain name be offline during the change? Will my e-mail and website be affected?

Very, very rarely there can be a glitch that may result in difficulties, but for the vast majority, the process is transparent, and no interruption in availability of the domain occurs, since the DNS "host" information is NOT changed by this process.

What is the process to transfer or register a domain?
  1. You fill out the LavaNet form to move your registration to LavaNet.
  2. We initiate the request to transfer the registration.
  3. Our registration system contacts yours, informing them of the change.
  4. Your old registrar will contact you by email to confirm the change.
  5. If you respond with an acknowledgement, the transfer takes place.
  6. If you respond with a decline, nothing changes.
  7. If you do not respond at all, the transaction times out and nothing changes.
Domain Registration

Keeps track of who leases what domain name, resolves disuptes and maintains a master public database of who is authorized as a contact for each domain, and which ISP acts as host for a given domain.

Registration only locks in your lease on use of a domain name, which can be revoked if it is unpaid, or if a successful legal challenge is brought to it. The domain is not accessible by theInternet until it has a "Host".

Register a Domain

Domain Host

In order for the domain name to consider handling its own email, web services or other Internet based features, it must be hosted by an Internet Service Provider. Domain hosting tells the registrar to direct any traffic related to the domain to the hosting ISP. Hosting ensures that there is a destination for email, web requests, and other Internet type traffic trying to find your domain name. Technically, this is called providing DNS (domain name services)

However, hosting does not include any web space or email addresses. In order for those requests to be fulfilled, the domain owner must work with the domain host to activate whatever services are desired.

Host your domain

Domain Services

Puts the domain to work, directing Internet traffic to your active domain services which you can set up with your ISP. Here are a few examples:

Web: "http://www.yourdomain.com" Serve up a web page.

Email: "name@yourdomain.com" set up custom email addresses.

FTP: "ftp://ftp.yourdomain.com" transfer big files elegantly with File Transfer Protocol. Add web space or email service to your domain
